The Rise of the Red Star
Pre-FCB Activities
Prior to the First Contact Battles, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) exploited global economic blind spots to increase its influence. Following the collapse of major Latin American cartels, North Korea filled the vacuum in illicit drug manufacturing, money laundering, and contract enforcement. Acting as covert suppliers and enforcers for governments and elites worldwide, the DPRK became a “dirty secret” within international politics.
Though not a member of the United Nations, North Korea successfully insulated itself from significant pressure due to its entanglement with powerful clients.

Alliance with Nova Zion
Despite its pariah status, North Korea pursued advancements in space colonization. Its most significant alliance formed with Nova Zion, another non-UN member. The two parties brokered an arrangement: Nova Zion provided discounted rockhoppers (resource extraction craft), while North Korea supplied military protection.
Alongside other rogue space nations, North Korea became informally known as the “mob soldiers of space,” serving as muscle for those willing to pay.

Role in the Prosecutor Conflict
Nova Zion’s emergence as a leading defender against the Prosecutors elevated the value of North Korea’s allegiance. To strengthen its standing, the DPRK placed one of its own in the Campaigner ranks. Major Kim Soo-Jung was selected to represent the nation, both advancing North Korea’s interests and ensuring its presence on the world stage.
