“The Volkswagen Bug of Space”

Origins

The Rockhopper was originally developed by the Taiwanese company Fènghuáng as one of the first widely available multi-purpose spacefaring vessels. Affordable, practical, and versatile, Rockhoppers quickly became popular among both industrial operators and private consumers, earning their reputation as the “Volkswagen bugs of space.”

Nova Zion Production

Following the collapse of Fènghuáng, the Rockhopper design entered the public domain. Nova Zion seized the opportunity to produce Rockhoppers, marketing their versions with an emphasis on luxury, safety, and customization.

The move proved pivotal for Nova Zion’s economy. Rockhopper sales became its primary source of revenue, funding infrastructure and defense projects. Today, an estimated 56% of all Rockhoppers in use originate from Nova Zion’s factories — including many purchased discreetly by UN-affiliated satellite nations.

Characteristics

Rockhoppers are prized for their:

  • Speed – Efficient propulsion for both short- and mid-range travel.
  • Dependability – Known for durability and long service lives.
  • Modifiability – Easily customized for consumer, industrial, or military purposes.
  • Practicality – A balance of affordability and functionality that made them ubiquitous.

Combat Adaptations

Nova Zion modified several Rockhoppers for military support roles during the Prosecutor conflict. These adaptations were designed to provide “percussionistic firing” sequences, coordinating with symphony fighters to amplify their resonance-based attacks against the alien threat.

Role in Geopolitics

Rockhoppers played a crucial role in enabling North Korea’s expansion into space, securing orbital real estate and forming the foundation of DPRK–Nova Zion cooperation. The vessel’s adaptability made it indispensable not just for commerce, but also as a political and military tool.
